Eating prior to a workout to burn body fat?

There are various routines you can do at the gym that focus on particular exercises and whether you're trying to burn fuel-01A.jpg[tag-cat family health ]body fat [/tag-cat], bulk up or work on stamina. The heaviness of the weights (resistance), number of repetitions and so on are part of that process, but have you ever considered how much you eat prior or during a workout?

Your body runs on fuel provided to it by the food you eat or the sports drink you down. These things are ultimately needed to participate in everyday activities and are definitely needed when pushing your body in a workout. However consider that if your body has a lot of fuel in it at the time of your workout it will use that fuel first BEFORE it even gets a chance to use the fuel you're trying to burn, other wise known as fat.

That’s correct; fat is a fuel source, but your body keeps it as a fuel reserve as a sort of safety mechanism which is why it can be difficult to lose fat when it's the last thing to get burned. I think you can see where I'm going with this. The object is to determine just what you're trying to accomplish in your workout. In this case it's to burn fat so the last thing you want to do is provide your body with a lot of [tag-tec]nutrition[/tag-tec] prior to or during your workout routine.

HOWEVER, it is also not wise to go into a hard training session with no food or drink type of fuel source. Reason for this is you'll have very little energy for a good workout if you work out while in ketosis (fat-burning mode) and so you'll never be able to lift the weights you're capable or even the number of reps so you'll stunt your ability to grow muscle and muscle is the best fat burning mechanism your body has.

It's kind of a catch 22 so the key is to eat just enough [tag-tec]carbs[/tag-tec] prior to your workout session to maintain your energy during your workout, which increases your metabolic rate even more than if you work out hungry. If your arms to legs are shaking then you know you didn't give yourself enough fuel to get you through your exercise routine. Find that sweet spot and you'll really start seeing the fat come off and a happy healthy you will shine through!

Best Regards,

Stephen
